You have been recently demoted or laid off. In tandem with the shock you’re scrambling figuring out what’s next.
It can feel like you need to jump right into the job hunt, but that’s hard when your heart and mind are elsewhere, trying to understand what happened.
As you think about your next job, flashes of resentment, anger and shame interrupt the job hunt. “Steve was terrible to work with and he got more responsibility.” “I can’t believe they did this to me” “I’m always too xyz, I should’ve…”
In each case, these emotions are coming up to be resolved.
Feelings don’t disappear, they just get louder when they are buried. And then our system is bogged down trying to simultaneously perform while trying to quiet our feelings. It can be draining.
During a big transition heavier emotions can actually help us be more discerning about our next opportunities.
Feelings of resentment? Show us where we overextended ourselves in the hopes of a reward.
Feelings of anger? They show us the unfairness and injustice in what happened. They protect us.
And shame? Show us where we have internalized negative perceptions of ourselves. And where we need support in being witnessed in a new light.
When processing these feelings alone is too daunting, getting support can help.
Giving yourself the space to feel, reflect and process will allow you to be more discerning and clear. You’ll be able to see the best ways forward for yourself, and be more strategic.
Get your bearings
This one-on-one session is an opportunity to start processing. To clear out emotional weight and start to experience the value you bring to the world.
Sessions are 45 minutes via zoom. We will both be in a safe, private space, allowing you to go deeper into the process. You will learn specific skills and techniques that support your growth. In addition to listening deeply and asking questions, I will invite you to learn new tools of introspection.
Although I use many therapeutic approaches, these sessions are different from talk-therapy. We’ll go a layer deeper. Instead of “talking through” the issue, I’ll invite you to reflect on your emotions, sensations and breath. This allows you to get to know yourself in a new way and come to insights that wouldn’t otherwise be available.
People are consistently surprised by the insights they come to, especially if it’s something they have already “talked to death.”
This session is designed to support you to:
Clear the air for yourself. Instead of being scattered, rushed or pushing yourself to apply to jobs you don’t want, have dedicated space to learn from your recent experience. Be more discerning for your next role.
Get clear on your vision. Get clear on your intentions for your next steps. Find where you have lots of energy and start crafting a plan to get there.
