Get back to feeling…
proud.
confident.
motivated.
Recover from toxic work experiences, get your energy back and do amazing things again.
Being driven is part of who you are… and you are here to do something meaningful with that drive.
But hostile work experiences emotionally drain us, zapping our drive.
Even when work is a dumpster fire and leaders are untrustable, we end up feeling the most frustrated with ourselves.
Maybe you’d like to find another job, but can’t get yourself to do it.
Instead you ask yourself the same questions over and over.
“How do I know I won’t mess it up again?”
“What if it ends up being worse?”
“Who am I to deserve a well-paying job that I feel good about? No one else seems to have that!”
“Why can’t I just be happy here, other people seem okay?”
“What if I’m too broken now”
Or you are starting a new role and can’t focus.
You are constantly vigilant — waiting for things going south again. You spend your energy trying to read for early warning signs. You worry you’ll fall back into old patterns you had during the “bad times” at your old job.
Either way, you’re constantly questioning yourself.
Toggling between anxious swirl and being glued to the bed. Everything in life is hard, and we lack the motivation except when we can stir up enough anxiety to propel us.
Unable to focus. Even when we do find crumbs of motivation, it’s hard to actually get anything done, especially when we feel all brain foggy.
Falling behind in work and life.
We hope that finding the right combination of sleep, food and exercise will get us back to feeling like our former, ambitious selves.
But sometimes all of that isn't enough
Even after changing jobs.
You just want to feel like yourself again.
You want to…
Be the author of your own life
See sparks of inspiration when you think of your future
Actually relax without ruminating over work
Go to bed proud of yourself
Wake up excited
But all of that is a distant memory that feels like a dream.
I’ve been there
I went from spunky and driven to barely functioning.
I worried I’d never get back to being myself again.
On paper, things were great. I was an analyst at the big friendly tech company that rhymes with boogle. You know, the one with the fun colors.
In reality, I was so overloaded, micromanaged, unrecognized and betrayed that I had to force myself to function on fumes each day. The stress left me with a chronic health condition.
I was trying things…
Taking leadership courses
Trying to convince leadership how things needed to change (with beautiful presentations and tons of research :)
Designing new workflows
Personally, I tried …
Working on my public speaking
Networking
Finding a mentor
Exercising
Sleeping earlier (only to still wake up anxious in the middle of the night)
Waking up early
Getting my Omega-3s, or whatever the latest super food was.
Basically, all the things that productivity culture said would work.
Mostly, it just made me more stressed.
It wasn’t until I learned how to work with my emotional experience (instead of fighting myself), that I got back to being me.
My name is Cara…
…and now I help ambitious people get over bad work experiences so they can get back to being their go-getter selves.
